NOS - Network Operating System

Definition: A NOS is a network operating system. A network operating system implements protocol stacks as well as device drivers for networking hardware. Some network operating systems, like Windows 98 Second Edition, also add custom networking features like Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).
Network operating systems have existed for more than thirty years. The UNIX® operating system was designed from the beginning to support networking. In its early forms, Windows did not support networking, so Novell NetWare became the first popular network operating system for the personal computer (Windows 95 and Windows for Workgroups were Microsoft's first network operating system products). Today, nearly any consumer operating system qualifies as a NOS due to the popularity of the Internet and the obvious need to support Internet Protocol (IP) networking at a minimum.

HBO On Broadband Coming Soon On Your Computer

If you are a movie addict, the HBO on Broadband service offered by Time Warner Cable will give you access to 400 hours of downloadable movies and TV series for no additional fees. The catch is however that you have to be a Time Warner Cable Inc. subscriber, both for digital cable TV and Internet services. And if you want that to become a reality starting this Tuesday, you’re going to have to move to Milwaukee or Green Bay, because that’s where Time Warner will first test its service.

Graphic Design Type

What do you actually mean by Graphic design?

It is a method of communicating visually where the ultimate focus is to convey the meaning to a particular group of persons. Here the message is conveyed in the non-verbal form i.e., using words, images and other such graphical elements. Not only a graphical design should be attractive but also it should work as well. It is a general concept that what we see will stay longer in our mind than what we hear. This is the principle behind graphical design.

Types of Graphic Design

Graphic design is a field where you have to use your creativity along with latest technologies to make the mode of communication an effective one. The designer uses a wide variety of communication tools in order to convey a message on behalf of client to particular audience. The main tools are typography and image.

Image-Based Design

Designers will either use created or photographed images to communicate the messages, which their clients want to convey. Images are effective tools of communication, which can express even the emotions and moods. When compared to words, people respond quickly to images. For example, we all know that a candy is hot, and when an image in combination with this knowledge creates a visual mesmerism. In an image-based design, the pictures will convey the entire message. Sometimes a few words are used in addition to the picture. A graphic designer chooses an image-based design only when he feels that an image is thousand times better than a word.

Type-Based Design

Type based designs are nothing but using words in an attractive way to convey a message instead of using pictures. Just like the meaning of a text, how the words look like is also important for a graphic designer. A designer uses different typescripts, type size, colors, borders, shadings, columns, margins, spacing etc to make the text unique and attractive.

Image and Type

When the designers combine both text and images to convey the message to the audience, it is known as image and type design. The words and image should be creative and catchy respectively. After the design concept has been finalized, the designers work with photographers, illustrators, typesetters and other production technicians to get the final output as desired by their clients.

Symbols, Logos and Logotypes

Just like the pictures, symbols and logos also have the potential to quickly reach the audience. It helps to represent a particular concept or company. Logos and logotypes reveal that the product belongs to a particular company.

Computer Technician Work Process

I would like to share with you my (and many other technicians) process of working on a computer and dealing with a client. I have built up this process over many years after making many mistakes of my own and putting extra steps to make sure they don’t happen again. This is my process:Ask What the Problem IsWhen I first answer the phone, I will try and determine what the problem is as much as I can before I go onsite to make sure its something I can fix. However, what they say on the phone can often be wildly different to what the problem actually is. Once I arrive at the clients location, I ask what the problem is again and ask them a few extra questions to help pinpoint what the problem could be. Depending on the problem, I would ask something along the lines of: Did you install any new software or hardware recently? Was the computer making strange noises before this happened? Was there a power outage recently?
Inspect the ComputerIf they leave the computer at your location, physically inspect it with them watching and look for any cracks, scuffs or any other sort of damage. This will save you tons headaches down the track if they say you damaged the computer while it was in your possession, even though the damage was already there when you received it.

The Importance of Computer Networks

Information and communication are two of the most important strategic issues for the success of every enterprise. While today nearly every organization uses a substantial number of computers and communication tools ( telephones, fax, personal handheld devices), they are often still isolated. While managers today are able to use the newest applications, many departments still do not communicate and much needed information cannot be readily accessed.

Data, Information, Knowledge, and Wisdom

There is probably no segment of activity in the world attracting as much attention at present as that of knowledge management. Yet as I entered this arena of activity I quickly found there didn't seem to be a wealth of sources that seemed to make sense in terms of defining what knowledge actually was, and how was it differentiated from data, information, and wisdom. What follows is the current level of understanding I have been able to piece together regarding data, information, knowledge, and wisdom. I figured to understand one of them I had to understand all of them.

History of Communications

Most people know that if they watch television the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is part of their life due to its role in regulating interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable.
What people may not recognize is the extent to which every area of their life is intertwined with the communications technologies the FCC has responsibility to regulate. For example, because almost all electrical and electronic equipment emits radio frequencies, FCC equipment authorization rules protect you.these are just a few of the thousands of ways in which the vital work of the FCC helps facilitate both personal freedom and the public good. Perhaps no one example better illustrates the breadth and importance of the FCC’s role in modern America than September 11, 2001, when all Americans were reminded of the importance of reliable, easily available, and interoperable communications – both for emergency personnel responding to a tragedy and individuals checking on family and friends.

Informaton and Commiunication Technology

Information and communication technologies are pervasive in our world today – from our microwave ovens and air conditioning systems to our mobile phones and desktop computers to our cars and watches.
As tomorrow’s ICT professional you are likely to be working with technologies that don’t exist yet. You’ll have your choice of industry – banking and finance, heath, insurance, defiance, manufacturing, telecommunications, agriculture, environment, hospitality, petroleum – you name it. You’ll be able to choose the type of organization you want to work in, whether it be a large corporation, a small business, government or a city council, here in Australia or overseas.
You’ll have the opportunity to constantly learn new skills, travel, progress your career, and benefit from an exciting, challenging but enjoyable career.
So explore the ACS ICT Careers website and find out what’s waiting for you. You’ll find career descriptions, read the experiences of graduates working in the profession, check out jobs and salaries and much more.
